Privacy Policy
BowerBite is built for confidential, pre-broadcast material, so privacy is the starting point: your transcripts, footage and projects never leave your computer. This policy explains the small amount of information we do handle to sell and licence BowerBite, and what we do with it.
Who we are. BowerBite is a business name of Simon Wright, a sole trader in New South Wales, Australia (ABN 21 435 987 047). Contact: support@bowerbite.com. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles.
1. What stays on your computer
Everything you work on in BowerBite (transcripts, notes, audio and video, projects, stashes, transcriptions and translations) is processed and stored on your own computer. We never receive it, and BowerBite has no usage tracking or analytics.
2. What we collect
- When you buy: your name, email address, billing address, any business tax ID you choose to give, your plan and number of seats. Card details go directly to our payment partner (Stripe / Link); we never see or store them.
- Your licence: your licence key, linked to your subscription, name, email, plan, seats and status, plus a list of the computers it's activated on. For each computer we keep its name (as set on that computer), a short computer code BowerBite generates, and when it last checked in.
- Licence checks: when BowerBite activates or checks your subscription (about once a week), it sends only your licence key and that computer's name and code, never anything about your projects or files.
- Emails: the messages you send us, and delivery records for the emails we send you, such as your licence key.
- Website and downloads: like any website, our hosting provider sees your IP address and browser details when you visit bowerbite.com or download the app or optional models. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
3. Why we use it
To process your purchase, create and email your licence key, check your licence, provide support, send important account and service messages (such as price changes or receipts), meet legal and tax obligations, and prevent misuse of licence keys. We don't sell your information, and we only send marketing emails if you've asked for them.
4. Who helps us
We use a small number of trusted services, which handle data on our behalf or as part of providing their service:
- Stripe and Link (payments, tax, receipts and the customer portal);
- Cloudflare (website hosting, our licence server and its storage, and download hosting);
- Resend (sending licence emails);
- Google Workspace (our email);
- GitHub (hosting app installers and update information);
- Hugging Face (some optional speech and translation models may be downloaded from there).
These providers are mostly based in, or store data in, the United States and other countries. We choose reputable providers and only share what each needs.
5. How long we keep it
We keep licence and purchase records while your subscription is active and for as long afterwards as tax and accounting law requires (generally up to 7 years in Australia). Computers you deactivate are removed from your licence record. Support emails are kept while they're useful for helping you.
6. Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or ask how it's been used, by emailing support@bowerbite.com. We'll respond within 30 days. Some records must be kept for legal or tax reasons. You can update your billing details yourself in the customer portal. If you're in the EU, UK or another region with privacy laws, you have the rights those laws give you, including to complain to your local regulator.
If you have a privacy concern, please contact us first. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
7. Security
Licence records are stored with Cloudflare and protected by access controls and encryption. Our payment and email providers keep their own strong security. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect to a minimum, and if a breach ever affected you, we'd tell you as the law requires.
8. Changes
We'll update this policy if what we collect or how we use it changes, and email you about significant changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
